YWCA is currently recruiting for a part-time Shelter Assistant to work up to 25 hours per week. The schedule is flexible and could include day, evening, or weekend hours.

Job Summary:

The Shelter Assistant will organize and maintain YWCA’s donation process. This position would also assist in cleaning/preparing resident rooms and fulfilling supply requests.

Job Duties:

  • Process donations including accepting, sorting, and organizing.
  • Assist in maintaining all donations areas and deliver to a local thrift store as needed.
  • Coordinate with YWCA team members on donation needs, storage, etc.
  • Provide offsite clients with food baskets and supplies.
  • Oversee and work with volunteers to ensure proper donation processing.
  • Clean and prepare participant rooms.
  • Assist team members in filling participant weekly supply requests.
  • Greet and assist donors and volunteers.

Other Job Duties

  • Attend scheduled Shelter meetings.
  • Prompt and reliable attendance is required.
  • Provide current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current driver’s license and proof of insurance with insurable driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Meets background requirements.
  • An understanding of, appreciation for, and support of the mission of YWCA Cass Clay, which is to eliminate racism and empower women.

Requirements:

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this position. While performing the responsibilities for this position, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, push, carry and drive frequently. The employee will also be required to twist at waist, squat, kneel, stoop, crouch and reach overhead occasionally. Standing in place and sitting at desk for prolonged periods of time are performed occasionally. Repetitive keying, data entry, wrist motion, and reaching above shoulders are performed frequently. Lifting up to 40 lbs. from shoulder to overhead is occasional, carrying and pulling up to 75 lbs. is performed frequently and pushing up to 40 lbs. is performed frequently.
